Owning a home offers many economic and social benefits and serves as a critical wealth-building asset for families, providing stability to households. DASH for LaGrange is an advocate of the idea that the quality of life in a community begins with safe, decent, affordable housing as its foundation.

Central to the success of DASH is the creation of homeowners. Navigating through the home buying process can be a complex, frustrating and intimidating adventure for many modest-income families. Many are unsure how to begin to buy a house and many face barriers that prevent them from attaining their dream of homeownership. The mission of the DASH Homeownership Center is to help navigate any family through the home buying process, ultimately becoming homeowners, regardless of their income status.

Since The Homeownership Center opened in 1982 (as Neighborhood Housing Services of LaGrange), it has provided more than $2.3 million in direct mortgage and home-improvement financing, provided $3.4 million in first mortgage assistance, and has helped more than 100 families become homeowners.

The DASH Homeownership Center is one of 88 centers affiliated with NeighborWorks America, a group of 230 community-based organizations. NeighborWorks America is the oldest nonprofit affordable-housing and community-development organization in the nation.
