Our Story

Making a Difference in LaGrange

DASH is a nonprofit organization based in LaGrange, Georgia, founded in 2002 to thoughtfully address long-term neighborhood revitalization. We restore neighborhoods that have been overlooked, rebuilding them through intentional, residential, and commercial development. Funds are reinvested into future projects, allowing us to continue strengthening the same neighborhoods.

Dependable, Affordable, Sustainable Housing

Our mission is to be a catalyst for community revitalization that transforms the lives of families and individuals by providing opportunities that focus on dependable, affordable, sustainable housing and active community leadership.

Neighborhood Revitalization

DASH approaches neighborhood revitalization with a development ideology rooted in creating connected, inclusive, and sustainable communities. By incorporating New Urbanism principles, DASH emphasizes mixed-use development, human-scale design, and a strong sense of place. Their work prioritizes walkability, ensuring that residents can safely and easily access housing, jobs, services, and public spaces without relying heavily on cars.

This focus helps strengthen local economies while fostering social interaction and community cohesion. Overall, DASH’s strategy blends thoughtful planning and design to build vibrant neighborhoods that are both livable and enduring.

Housing Development

DASH provides mixed-income housing options that include single-family homes, cottages, and adaptive reuse apartment-style living. These varied housing types promote inclusivity while meeting different community needs and preserving existing neighborhood character.

Low Income Housing Tax Credits

Low Income Housing Tax Credits are one of the tools we use to support the development of affordable rental housing across the Southeast. This program helps make larger housing projects financially possible while keeping rents within reach for residents.

Richard W. Wolfe Apartments at Dunson School

Located in the historic former Dunson School in LaGrange, the Dunson School Apartments provide affordable housing for seniors ages 62 and older earning up to 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI). These thoughtfully renovated one-bedroom studio apartments offer independent living in a unique historic setting while preserving an important part of the community’s history.

Commercial Development

DASH incorporates commercial development into its neighborhood revitalization approach to ensure residents have convenient access to essential services, retail, and local job opportunities. By thoughtfully integrating commercial spaces with housing, DASH helps create walkable, mixed-use communities where people can live, work, and shop within the same area.

This supports local entrepreneurs and strengthens the neighborhood economy by keeping spending within the community. Commercial development also helps activate public spaces, making neighborhoods more vibrant, safe, and connected.

" DASH for LaGrange has not only been transformative for the City but it has been life changing for many of the Hillside residents. Watching DASH help people break the chain of generational poverty and own a home of their own, has been a joy.

Leading with concern and compassion for people, has created an organizational culture at DASH that has allowed them to be extremely successful.  The City of LaGrange and the Callaway Foundation have been great partners with DASH and some of our most vulnerable residents have been the beneficiaries of those collaborations. " DASH LaGrange has truly rebuilt the Hillside Community, and I have lived this transformation firsthand. I have called Hillside home on Troup Street for over 20 years. This is where I raised my family, built lifelong relationships, and remained committed even during times when the neighborhood faced significant challenges.

Over the years, I watched Hillside change—not overnight, but through intentional and sustained investment. DASH LaGrange focused on people, not just property. Homes were restored, families were able to remain in the community, and a renewed sense of pride returned to our streets. "

" As a former board member and now an elected official, I understand from the inside and outside the value of this organization.  Serving on the board, I can say the organization is dedicated to citizens who need better housing options. From the outside, I can see the value added to our county in terms of quality housing options. The value DASH adds to the quality of life for our citizens and economic increases to community is immeasurable. "

" DASH has been a wonderful partner for Callaway Foundation for more than 20 years now.  They have helped transform the Hillside neighborhood over that period, and because of their vision and efforts, Hillside is now a vibrant place to live and visit.  Scores of dilapidated houses have either been replaced or renovated into spaces where families can be proud to call home. One of our strategic priorities is to ensure people in LaGrange and Troup County have a safe, stable, and affordable place to live.  The leadership at DASH has exciting and ambitious plans for the years ahead, and we look forward to continuing to support their noble work."
